What will it look like in session?
I take a collaborative approach in therapy. In the first session, I will ask a lot of questions to understand you and the context of where you come from. We will look at what is working for you, what isn't, and what you'd like to see change. I don't label or diagnose people, as I'd rather view you as a whole person, irrespective of what you're going through.
You set the direction, the goals, and what we'll focus on. I don't come in with a fixed agenda or a predetermined idea of what needs to change. I have a humanistic and intersectional feminist approach to therapy, which means that I believe you know what is best for yourself.
What I offer is a space that's safe enough to actually feel the things that seem too big or too scary to sit with alone. The feelings and thoughts that show up when you get home after work and are figuring out what to do next.
The modalities I draw on most are somatic work, cognitive approaches, parts work, and narrative practices. However, they're just tools to work with.
By the end of your first session, my goal is that you leave with something concrete, however small it is. Could be a clearer sense of what you want out of therapy, what the next step looks like, or what small step you can start taking that day to make life easier for yourself.
The work we do in therapy is practice for the work you do outside of it. The goal isn't for you to need therapy forever. It's for you to build enough trust in yourself that you need it less.
I work with adults of all genders, including queer and trans clients, online across India and abroad. I hold a PG Diploma in Counseling Skills and an M.A in Psychology (Counseling). I have 900+ hours of counseling experience. My resume and proof of qualifications can be shared upon request as well.
